For every hour a physician or clinician spends with a patient, they will spend at least another half hour or more on documentation or other administrative work. More than that, around 25 percent of the dollars spent in health care are on wasteful administrative tasks. Such a burden leads to long hours and takes the clinician away from patient interaction and care, continuing education, clinical decision-making and personal and family time. It can lead to burnout and worse. On this episode, a leading expert discusses the challenge of administrative burden and what practices and organizations can do to remedy it.

Two of the most significant challenges facing clinical practices today, to increase patient satisfaction and to meet patient demands, involve connecting with patients and families. Recognizing patient and family engagement (PFE) as a critical aspect of care, especially as COVID-19 has overhauled and overwhelmed care delivery models, Vizient and Sg2 have conducted ongoing assessments of patients and families to learn their attitudes during this crisis. In this episode, part one of a three-part series, we will discuss those patient-family assessments and what they reveal.
